Nordiska Kompaniet, a renowned Swedish company, opened its doors around 1934 in the building designed by brothers Antonio and Carlos Vilar at the corner of Marcelo T. de Alvear and Florida Streets. In the early 1930s, the firm shifted from its historicist approach to straight-lined pieces made from exotic woods, such as sycamore, birch, walnut, and other similar woods.
